The DS has been out for a little more than three years now, and has hundreds upon hundreds of games in it’s library. In that library of games a couple of them are hidden gems that are worth way more than there initial price. Below is a list of five games and bundles that are maybe considered collectibles and rarities.

Metallic Rose Nintendogs Bundle

Used Price: $170 New Price: $250

This bundle includes a special edition pink DS with an imprint of a cute puppy paw and a copy of Nintendogs Best Friends. The bundle was available a little before the 2007 holiday season at the price of $149.99 in all stores and online sellers. These sold like hotcakes everywhere which led to Nintendo having trouble keeping them in-stock because the supply and demand was too high. Today the bundle sells for almost $100 more than the original retail price.

Monopoly / Boggle / Yahtzee / Battleship

New Price: $70 Used Price: $45

This board game compilation came out the first month of the DS’s release. I’m honestly not surprised that this a gem! It includes four classic board games in one cartridge. These games could be purchased for the GBA in a 3-in-1 package. Today the game sells for almost $40 more than it’s original retail price.

 Electroplankton

New Price: $68 Used Price: $43

All of us are very common with this musical game. You use little tadpoles to bounce against leaves to make a different arrangement of noises to make music. The game was released in the US in January of 2006 but only through online retailers and the Nintendo World store. This game still has it’s charm to sell for more than double of it’s original retail price

 Tetris DS

New Price: $60 Used Price: $40

This classic game is easily one gem for all systems it came out for. This edition of Tetris includes 10 player local play, online multi-player, and many Nintendo themed levels. The game sold more than two million copies worldwide and I’m guessing that was enough for Nintendo so they discontinued  the game. Hardcore Tetris fans have to pay double the retail price for a new copy of this classic game.

 Clubhouse Games

New Price: $50 Used Price: $40

Club House Games was released by Nintendo in late 2006. The game includes 42 card games, board games, parlor games, and action games. The game was an installment of the DS’s “Touch Generation” series. Most games sell for years and years but Nintendo has stopped publishing this tittle and the only places you can find these new is basically online.

It’s a typo, it’s a misprint… No!  It’s VIDEO GAME MORSE CODE!  The first episode (probably last considering how things go) of the summer is here, and it hopefully makes up for past losses by being a whopping hour and a half long!  There’s not much I can say to describe the episode besides that it’s choc full of E3 rants and a long commentary on the nature of hardcore games vs. casual games and how nongamers factor into the equation, the direction the industry is headed, and why the industry is in need of a “hardcore” revolution.

Everything you already know about E3… in audio form with commentary about how much it sucks!

Video Game Morse Code #7

Update: Volume issue fixed! Bear with any audio popping that may or may not occur but the volume should be much louder now.

Check out the taste test here!

Rumba Energy Juice

So I went to the store to get more packing tape (needed to ship some games) and found myself rolling through the energy drink isle on the way to the cash register. Couldn’t help but notice that I had another chance to review an energy drink! So I picked up this exuberant looking can of Rumba, and energy “juice”. I actually didn’t notice that it said juice until I got home and took it out of my fridge to give it the taste test after a few hours of letting it cool. This baby is 100% juice. I honestly got scared before opening it. I had no idea what to expect. “Why the hell did I buy energy juice?” I had so many options, but chose this piece of fruit in a can. WHY?!

Anyways, as you can see in the video, I opened it after reading the rest of the label. Gave it a quick smell test, definitely smelled like something orange… then I gave it the taste test only to find out that it was practically orange juice. That’s what it tasted like actually… freakin’ orange juice with “energy” written on the can. Rumba was a RumBUST. I hope I never make the mistake of buying another energy “juice” again… unless it looks really delicious or flavorful.

Enjoy your day knowing that you probably didn’t spend nearly $3 for orange juice in a can!

Wait! I think I just felt a buzz…

Nevermind, it’s gone. RumBUSTED!

Monster Engergy Black Ice

Today is July 11th, which you might know is 7/11’s free 7.11 oz. Slurpee day. You could say I took advantage of the deal by heading to my 2nd nearest 7/11. The closest one to my house claimed there was no more 7.11 oz. cups so I couldn’t get one there… bullshit. Anyways, after walking into the store I was greeted by the clerk and he said that all other Slurpee sized were only $1. Wham-bam-bingo! Today was my lucky day. There’s no better money spent in the world than $1 for a 40 oz. Super-Strata (the largest Slurpee size… sounds like it comes straight from outer-space or something). Well, I decided to make it interesting and blast my Washington on the new Monster Energy flavor, Black Ice. After filling my large cup and generously giving away my $1 bill, the rush began.

The first sip was quite amazing. I believe it went something like this. “Oh my gosh, they did it right! A frickin’ energy drink in the form of a Slurpee! Awesome! This is loads better than that half-assed Bawls attempt 7/11 tried last year! This flavor rocks!” And it did… for about three-fourths of the 40 oz. cup. The flavor was appealing and I could feel the energy vaporizing out of every pore in my body, I was satisfied. But the last fourth of my beverage left me quite disappointed.

I was in the passenger seat while my friend was driving us back to our neighborhood and I was like “Hey, I wonder what my tongue looks like?” As I opened up the small passenger mirror, I say nothing more than a monster. I literally became a monster after drinking the Slurpee. My tongue was blacker than night, I figured I might have been poisoned, if not that, then on the way to my death. “Have I been plagued?” No, it was just  that fucking disgusting Slurpee. My teeth made me look like I was Venom, that one comic character dude. Just plain nasty. How could I be seen in public like this? What if I was on my way to get fly with some hunnies? I would have looked like a creep… Luckily I was just going back to my friend’s house… but I still looked weird as hell.

But to put it in short, the Monster Energy Black Ice Slurpee put a wrap on my day. My mouth looked like it was diseased, I ended up losing three consecutive games of air hockey at my friend’s house (I usually whoop his ass), and to top it all off my doctor informed me I have AIDS.

Just kidding about the last one. 2 out of 5 on the Aaron-meter!

You guys begged for content and now you’re getting it. Happy? Me too.

Mountain Dew Revolution is the best thing to come out of the sky since that Halo 3 Game Fuel. I stopped by my local grocery store to pick up some iceberg lettuce only to come out of the store with a plastic bag containing a bottle of Mountain Dew Revolution, part of the new DewMocracy series, and oh yeah, the bag of lettuce.

Now let me tell you something, this was a complete whim purchase. I’m full of cash these days so why not blow a buck on a phat new drink? I opened the bottle in my car while leaving the parking lot and was immediately blasted with a fresh smell of Wild Berry drank. I could already tell this stuff had power, I mean, it had so much power I’m writing an article for it. The label reads that the beverage is infused with Wild Berry fruit flavor and Ginseng, a substance identical to cocaine.

Anyways, after taking a few sips of my new drink I could tell I would be in for a good ride home (and it was). My lips were sealed onto the bottle like a newborn getting breast-fed for the first time, it was that fantastic. The flavor of wild berry soda running down my inner pipes was delicious and I can’t wait to do it again. If you’re looking for a comparison to another drink, it tastes very similar to Bawls, just like $2 cheaper. The Mountain Dew has war-ending potential, you should all try it. 5 out of 5 on the Aaron-meter.

Mountain Dew Revolution Review

Please don’t take the review that seriously… I was being sarcastic most of the time. It’s actually a pretty good drink though.

Edward Elric Editorials

It’s been several months since I’ve been given the name of Editor at TotalGamerZone. However, for reasons unknown, I have been unable to access the site, or the necessary page to fulfill my duty. Well, apparently everything is working now, and so I’m just filling going to go, and introduce myself.  To begin, my name is Edward Elric, and if you’re wondering, no it’s not my real name, but rather a pen name that I’ve used on various school assignments, and radio program, as well as other sites I regularly visit. If my use of the name of the protagonist from Fullmetal Alchemist isn’t enough of a hint, then I’ll clarify - I am a huge fan of Fullmetal Alchemist! In fact, one might consider me an expert on the tragic story of the Elric Brothers. Unfortunately, that praise is only reserved for my knowledge based on the anime, not the manga (not yet anyways).

The Place Promised in Our Early DaysOther than Fullmetal Alchemist, I enjoy many other anime/manga series. Some of my favourites include Grave of the Fireflies, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Samurai Champloo, BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and the works of Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and so forth). My love for anime has proven to be a great influence in my life. Everything from motivating me to take up the piano, to inspiring, and improving my writing. Speaking of which, by the end of this blog you will notice that I certainly love to write, and have no problem in doing so when relating to myself - not that I’m prideful or anything. Then again, that’s sort of untrue, I’m very proud of my writing, and I love every bit of it. Whether it be short stories, poetry, or even the occasional editorial, or review - it’s a ‘Simple And Clean’ fact that I love to write!

Utada HikaruNow, hopefully you noticed what I did there. ‘Simple And Clean’ - hopefully many of you remember this song from the first Kingdom Hearts game. And, while I enjoyed Kingdom Hearts, the purpose of that little refernce was to go into my love for Japanese music. Yes, “Simple And Clean” was in English, but singing in English is no problem for the amazing Utada Hikaru - my favourite singer of all time! Along with popular Japanese rock band, L’Arc~en~Ciel, and the lesser-known duo of Miki Taoka, and Yuichi Ichikawa; The Indigo, these three are my all-time favourites, and once again if not for anime, I would’ve never have known about such amazing musicians, and would be suffering through the mainstream music scene. Thankfully, there are still artists I like outside of Japan, despite the fact Japanese music is all I’ve really been listening to for the past couple of years. Along with that, I’ve also had the pleasure of listening to some of the most talented composers today. Yoko Kanno, Michiru Oshima, Nobuo Uematsu, Yuki Kajiura, Joe Hisaishi, just to name a few. Thanks to these great musical minds, I’ve even taken the opportunity to enjoy classical pieces by those like Beethoven, and Chopin.

Sure, BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad’s Yukio “Koyuki” Tanaka was the one who inspired me to take up an instrument, but it was those like Michiru Oshima who pushed me to go for the piano, above anything else, and even though I’m not that great, it’s been tons of fun! Judging from everything I’ve written so far, I think Fullmetal Alchemist, Utada Hikaru, Hayao Miyazaki, Grave of the Fireflies, and Makoto Shinkai (The Place Promised in Our Early Days) are probably the biggest influences in my life to this point. With that said, I just realized that I missed noting my interests in gaming, after all this is a gaming site, but recently I just haven’t been gaming much. However, I’m always up for a few hours of The Legend of Zelda, Soul Calibur, Pokemon, or Super Smash Bros. and a good RPG.

Anyways, hopefully this will make it through, and I can begin showering you all with my vast knowledge, and writing wonder! Remember folks: “We all just need to live and be content while we can.” ~Edward Elric

Ok I haven’t posted about Ebay much lately but Nintendo Canada is clearing out a warehouse and somehow stumbled upon $20,000 worth of sealed retro Nintendo games and threw them on Ebay for the United Way. So, I’m sure no one here will be able to even afford to bid on one of these auctions, but they’re full of fantastic sealed games and it’s unlike anything you’ll ever see again. NintendoAge has apparently called Nintendo Canada about this and confirmed that the auctions are indeed straight from Nintendo, despite the new Ebay account (After all, how often does Nintendo sell it’s own games on Ebay? They’d make a killing with Wii Fit). Anyway I’m sure sealed collectors are simultaneously overjoyed and dying because these lots are huge finds yet will likely drain their bank accounts.

WTF, where did these COME from and why isn’t there MORE?

Check out the madness HERE

Also notable on Ebay is a Donkey Kong Country Competition Cart with the green box. The cart is pretty rare and fetches around $200 but with the box they usually go for around four times as much so bid now those with plastic and cardboard fetishes.

This box + Your shelf = Insta-cool

A Nintendo World Championships 1990 is also on Ebay in fair condition. The seller is asking $6000-$8500 for it. I really am unsure. NWC seems to have appreciated over the years, yet they pop up on Ebay all the time and rarely sell due to the prices the sellers set. I hope one gets listed without a reserve so we can gauge the modern value of this holy grail, because I’m thinking this might not get bidders.

Overvalued? Maybe it’s only worth a mere $5,000 nowadays.

If you have a passionate love for the Nintendo 64 (or its games), you should jump all over this. Up for sale this time around is a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 developer cart. It’s dated as ALPHA: 4/20/01. Doesn’t it look fugly?

THPS2 Dev Cart

Here’s a message from the seller:

“SERIOUS VIDEO GAME COLLECTORS… This is a MEGA RARE Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 DEMO GAME CARTRIDGE for the Nintendo 64 game system. Only a small number were ever created for an early preview of the game. Will be shipped securely.

CARTRIDGE ONLY TESTED AND WORKS. Tall N64 dev cartridge casing with custom labels taped to the front and back.”

The seller has 100% positive feedback so it doesn’t look like they are pulling any kind of scam. If you’ve got the money and/or the desire for this wall-of-a-cart, go for it! But you’ll have to act fast, the auction ends in about two and a half hours from this posting!

Everyone’s favorite “I Can’t Believe It’s Not TGZ Podcast” Podcast… Video Game Morse Code is back this week with Episode #6!

I wonder how long it’s been since I slept. Did I even preview this podcast?

I get home from college and unpack, sorry this podcast is a week late! In this show I talk a bit about Kojima’s cryptic message at the end of the MGS4 press event, facepalm over bad drum peripherals, get very angry at British parents, tell PS2_Casual to get Symphony of the Night over RezHD, and go over a few short XBLA lists. Oh and I haven’t slept in days, so don’t mind how I sound. Enjoy.
